Couples celebrate anniversaries; companies celebrate anniversaries; that's not too out of the ordinary. But when is the last time you heard of a neighborhood celebrating their anniversary? Must be a pretty close-knit group. Well, that's the kind of community you can expect as a resident of Kennedy Heights.

In 1963, a group of concerned residents got together to brainstorm solutions on how to stop the growing numbers of people leaving their area. That group became the nucleus of what was soon to become known as the Kennedy Heights Community Council, a group that recently took time to acknowledge and celebrate their beginnings, growing pains and significant accomplishments.

Kennedy Heights extends from the top of the Norwood trough to the northeast of Pleasant Ridge and southwest of Silverton.

In its nearly 200 years of development, Kennedy Heights has changed from a frontier outpost to a farming community and even a summer resort. Annexed in 1914, Kennedy Heights became one of Cincinnati's hilltop residential neighborhoods. What started as a log cabin settlement eventually developed into today's diverse community where neighbors consistently bring to life the true meaning of the word neighborhood.

Covering exactly one square mile, Kennedy Heights has slightly more than 6,000 citizens. The neighborhood is comprised largely of families with residents in every age group.

Older two and three bedroom Cape Cods and Tudors are the common housing stock of Kennedy Heights, and new homes are being built. This neighborhood's owner-occupancy rate is among the highest at 60%.
